Book Talks /Projects
Celebrate Reading and Book Projects will begin January , but we will present them throughout the rest of the year.
Children should review basic facts weekly at home. IXL, Math Magician Sumdog
and NCTM on the math tab are linked up above, and are all sites that have these features and more. Facts + and - 18 K- 2, 5x5 gr. 3 , 7x7 to grade 4
9X9 to grade 5 and 12X12 to gr. 6
Children also need to be reading each evening. Although graphic novels are fun,
a steady reading diet of only graphic novels will decrease a child's need to create their own pictures about their reading
and in some cases comprehension, as they lose the valuable skill of predicting & confirming because many of the 5W questions + how have already been answered for the child in a picture.
Scholastic Book Club site has a book leveling feature built into the site, if you
want to ensure the reading level of a new book. The Fun Links and Language both have a link to Scholastic.
*See the Terrace Ridge Webpage for current dates and times of all school events if you are away, as there are too many to place them all in the planners/DCB.
